Greanite countertops can make your kichen extra special.
Granite countertops have become the "standard" countertop in many areas of the country. With so many different colors and varieties to choose from, it's fairly easy to find a granite variety that would look good with your kitchen.Granite is harder than slate or marble, but not as hard as quartz. It is somewhat porous, so it is not approved for food prep surfaces such as cafeterias and commercial kitchens.
When choosing granite, be particularly careful when selecting your countertops.Because the color and veining varies so much within the same slab, it is really best to visit the granite yard and tag your particular slab for your kitchen. This assures that you are getting what you expect.Granite comes in two different thicknesses. The standard 2cm is about 3/4" thick, and the thicker 3cm counters are about 1 1/8" thick. There are several different edge profiles that are available, and this should reflect the overall look of the kitchen. As far as maintenance is concerned, granite will need to be re-sealed every few years in order to keep them looking their best. Also keep in mind that light colored granites may show some staining that might occur when a spill occurs.
