Flooring for your Kitchen

A simple wood floor in a kitchen.

Choosing flooring for your kitchen remodel project should only come AFTER you have chosen your cabinets.  Your flooring color and overall look will be dictated by the color and styling of your cabinets.  Dark cabinets with a formal style will require floors that are lighter in color and more elegant, such as stone or marble.  Light cabinets with a simple style tend to call for floors that are darker and less formal, such as wood.  One major concept to keep in mind is to keep your floors simple!  Your kitchen floor needs to be seen as a whole, not seen as individual pieces of tile or wood.  Don't choose a complicated pattern or use too many different colors in the floor.  This type of floor is too distracting in a kitchen, as there is a lot going on visually in a kitchen.  Choices of  flooring include wood, tile, stone, laminate, and Amtico.
